My husband and I got into a bit of a debate on Saturday while I was cooking. He was washing dishes and put some music on. Only problem was that he put on RJD2 – which I like – but is a little techno-y.
I immediately cried – “EW!!” when he turned on the iPod…Not because I don’t like that artist – but because I was making an apple crisp. You see, just like food and wine pairings – I believe that there are food and music pairings. And, if I am cooking, I like the music to compliment the food that I’m preparing.
If I were making chili, or enchiladas, or mole – I’d want to listen to Calexico or Rodrigo y Gabriella. If I make jambalaya or gumbo I want zydeco.
I explained this to Rafe, and he acquiesced. For my an apple crisp – a homey, american, seasonal dish – he put on some folky/bluegrass – Jerry Douglas.
